In the data model view workbook we use the table name and short description name to generate drop view statements at the top of the view code.
So usually what we do is just drop all views and create all views because up to the current time that command took very little time.
But now that our data models are becoming so large we have decided to add the option of adding drop view statements before each view creation step so that it is possible to cut/paste the drop / create statements from the text document into whatever database utility is being used and just update the one view.
This is as opposed to having to put “create or alter” or “create or replace” or whatever the database supports.
All databases support drop view / create view and so we plan to do that.
We also plan to have the creation of the drop views at the beginning of the view generation be optional.
So this PI will introduce two new options, one for generate create view statements and one to optionally generate the drop statements.
We will post here when the improvement is made.
